Almost perfect I've had my DS107 long enough to have played around with it thoroughly and adapt it to my needs. With that said, I think this product is almost perfect. My DS107 has a WD 500 GB harddrive, and is located on my home network. I store large video files, install files (service packs and other things I don't want to download more than once), tons of music, and backups of numereous PCs and a Mac. I have had no problems accessing the NAS over the network with either PCs or Macs. I use it as my primary backup drive for my computers, and even make backups from a work machine over the ftp connection. Things I really like: Users and privileges - you can setup users and modify their privileges for all of your shared folders on the NAS. YOu can allow/disallow access to certain users and certain shares; very useful for ftp users. FTP/FTP over SSL - very convenient and reliable in my experience. PhotoStation - I like that all I have to do is drag and drop photos into the photo share folder, and the DiskStation does the rest. The PhotoStation admin allows you to create users independent of the NAS that can view your webpages (thus, webusers will have no access to your other files on different shares) You can also assign webuser privileges (i.e., certain users have access to certain photo albums.) Web Server - works well, though I haven't enabled the MySQL/cgi stuff (no need) Things that are so-so: The music share is a little weak. If you transfer music files that were purchased or have licensing on it, you will not be able to play them through the DiskStation. It plays the non-licensed songs (unprotected mp3s) just fine. The configuration interface is web-based, and I've never been a huge fan of these. The most recent firmware, however, is quite good and took care of a lot of my complaints in regards to the interface (Firmware release April 2008) It is still a web interface, but it is much better than the previous release. Overall, I really think this is a great unit. It is a little more expensive than other NASs, but the flexibility and functionality that you get is significantly more than other products I considered purchasing. I just ordered a DS207 for a friend, and look forward to playing with that a little bit. I fully expect to be satisfied with it as well. I did have some questions about the unit once I bought it, and so I emailed Synology, and their response was fast, courteous, and on-point, so I am inclined to like the company as well as their product.
